Harness Race
Last Sunday I passed by the "Trabrennbahn Krieau", a horse racing track in the 2nd district, where a harness race happened to be in full swing. The race track was opened in 1878, the old grandstand and a tower for officials were finished in 1913. It is the second oldest harness racing track in Europe after the 1834 built Central Moscow Hippodrome

Lazy Afternoon in The Park
After last Sunday's afternoon walk I relaxed for a little while on a bench in Augarten. Some other people preferred to make themselves comfortable on the lawn.

Sunny Sunday Afternoon
Yesterday the weather was very nice and nearly everybody was out and about. The banks of the Danube Canal were crowded with people enjoying a drink and/or the sun.

New Graffito
I love street art, but in Vienna it's hard to see good one. This new graffito on the banks of the Danube Canal recently caught my eyes.

The Hare on The Staircase
Maybe you are fed up with bunnies, hares and everything that has to do with Easter by now, but I still want to show you his photo... The Albertina museum didn't only put a huge pink replica of Albrecht Dürer's "Young Hare" on one of its roofs to promote its current exhibition "Dürer, Michelangelo, Rubens - The 100 Masterworks of the Albertina" (please click here for a photo), but also covered its external staircase with the artwork.

Old Vienna Easter Market
Currently there are several Easter Markets in Vienna. The Old Vienna Easter Market at the Freyung is famous for its huge amount (ca. 40.000) of painted Easter eggs piled up in the center of the market. You can get there also other Easter decorations and snacks from the Austrian provinces. This year the market takes place for the 25th time.

There's a hare hidden in this photo. Can you see it? Yesterday the giant pink replica of the “Young Hare”, a watercolour by the German painter Albrecht Dürer painted in 1502 and a highlight of the current exhibition "Dürer, Michelangelo, Rubens - The 100 Masterworks of the Albertina", was installed on a roof of the museum

The Sad Lion
During my last promenade in the northern outskirts I discovered this stony lion. He seems rather sad or desperate to me...

Leopoldsberg
Leopoldsberg (425 m) is part of the Wienerwald (Vienna Woods) and a popular destination for a sunday afternoon walk. The construction of the church on top of Leopoldsberg started in 1679 and was finished in 1730.

View of The Town #7
I love the city center, but every now and then it's time to take a walk in the northern outskirts and to enjoy this view of Vienna.

Vienna City Marathon
Yesterday the 31st Vienna City Marathon took place. This year 42.078 runners from 127 nations participated in this huge sports event. Shortly after the start the participants passed by my place - this is what I saw from the window of my living room. Believe it or not, this year I managed to spot two friends of mine and we waved to each other. The marathon was won by Getu Feleke (Ethiopia, 2:05:41) and Anna Hahner (Germany, 2:28:59).

Donau City
The first building of the Donau City area in the 22nd district, on the northern bank of the Danube river, was erected in 1995. Currently about 8.500 people are living and working in this new "city within a city'".

Central Art Station
How to make the covers of a construction area more beautiful? By asking street artists to spray their works onto the temporary walls as did the Austrian Federal Railways. The project is called "Central Art Station". The work in this photo was created by Mexican born graffiti artist Stinkfish and graces the foyer of the new central railway station until the end of May.

Under Construction
I think this is Vienna's biggest construction area at the moment: On 109 hectares of land a whole new city district is arising. Besides the hyper-modern central railway station, 5.000 apartments for 13.000 people as well as office buildings and workplaces for 20.000 people are being built. The new central station entered into partial operation at the beginning of December 2012 and by 2015 full operations will begin.

Sweet Farbergé Egg
The Kunsthistorisches Museum is currently showcasing the seminal work of the foremost Russian jeweller and goldsmith at the turn of the 20th century: Peter Carl Fabergé. Four Imperial Easter eggs form the centre of the show. The K.u.K. ("Imperial and Royal") Court Confectionery Bakery Demel created an oversized sugar mass version of "The Memory of Azov Egg" and displays it in one of its windows.

Above The City Roofs
The modern buildings of Donau City, an area in the 22nd district, tower above the older parts of Vienna. From this viewpoint the height of the newly constructed DC Tower, Austria's tallest skycraper, is clearly visible.

I discovered these triangles in Donau City in the 22nd district. They are part of some modern architecture.
