Greened up Tree Pit

If you live in Vienna, love to garden but don't have a garden of your own, you can become a "tree patron" which means that you are officially allowed to transform a tree pit in your own small garden - you just have to apply at the competent area renewal office. I think this is a very good idea, the city gets more green without spending money and hobby gardeners get a "playground". I hope the dogs and human passersby respect these little gardens...

I think this is a very good idea, the city gets more green without spending money and hobby gardeners get a "playground". The only things I'm worried about are litter and dog poop... The tree pit garden in this photo is located in a quiet street close to my place, it is very well kept and seems to be (still?) very clean.

Urban Gardening #4

The urban gardener who planted the sunflowers of yesterday's post even decorated the pole of a traffic sign with two flower pots. I love it! There should be more people who green up the city on their own initiative.

Vienna Citrus Days

Last weekend the "13th Vienna Citrus Days" took place at the Schönbrunn Orangery and this time I finally made it there. The information and sales exhibition presented a historic collection of citrus trees, the program also included tastings of culinary specialties, guided tours and lectures. It was really interesting to see how many different kinds of citrus fruits exist.

Blue Window Frames

When I passed by this apartment house, the trees at the doorway caught my eyes at first, but looking through my camera I also noticed the beautiful blue window frames.

Mediterranean Flair

I love olive and orange trees, they remind me of holidays in southern regions - and they add a little mediterranean flair to the outdoor area of the Italian restaurant at Palais Harrach.

Forsythia Intermedia

The forsythia intermedia is one of the earliest shrubs to bloom in Viennese spring.

Blooming Magnolia

Finally the trees and shrubbery are folitating! Here´s a blooming magnolia that I discovered in the 18th district.

The curious plant

Unfortunately I don´t know which kind of plant this is, but I like how it grows through the "window" of a garden wall. It seems to me as if the plant wants to know what is going on outside the wall.

Virgina creeper

I discovered these windows framed with autumnal coloured Virginia creeper some days ago on Mölkerbastei in the city center.

Balcony #4

This balcony is near my office, I see it every day on my way home and currently adore the autumnal colours of the plants. Unfortunately the balcony is overlooking a very busy square...
On a side note, I´m wondering why lately there are hardly comments on my postings :-( Please don´t be so shy, your comments are more than welcome!!

All that I can see is another lemon tree

Well, it´s not as if there were lemon trees all over Vienna, the title of this post is from a song of a german band (you can see the video here)... I found this lemon tree in the Hirschstetten Flower Gardens last week and liked it a lot because it made me believe for a few moments to be in some southern country.

Someone loves flowers

Someone near my office obviously loves flowers and lets participate the passers-by in this love. I like it when people green the houses and the sidewalks! For many years I had some flowers on the window sill next the door of my flat but lately all the flowers have been stolen.

Balcony #1

This balcony in the second district caught my eye because of the plants and the red ball. According to the forecast, after long weeks of very unseasonable weather this weekend it will be warm and mostly dry, so it should be finally possible to enjoy balconies and terraces.
