Sunny Holiday

Yesterday was Austria's National Day which commemorates the declaration of neutrality in 1955. It was a sunny and very warm day, so I took a walk in Kurpark Oberlaa in the 10th district.

Sunny Holiday

Last Saturday was Austrian National Holiday and we were spoiled with sunshine and (for this time of the year) unusual temperatures of around 20°C. Everybody was out and about and a lot of people had a break at the café/restaurant "Palmenhaus" in the Burggarten.

Signs of Autumn in The Stadtpark

Yesterday was National Holiday, Austria celebrated its Declaration of Neutrality (1955). Although it was a rather dark and dreary day, I took a walk in the Stadtpark and tried to enjoy the signs of autumn. Have I ever mentioned that autumn is not my favourite season?

National Holiday

Today Austria is celebrating the day of the Declaration of Neutrality. On October 26, 1955 the Austrian Parliament declared the country permanently neutral. This declaration was the direct consequence of the allied occupation by the Soviet Union, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and France between 1945 (end of World War II) and 1955 from which the country was freed by the Austrian State Treaty on May 15 the same year.
Traditionally, on this holiday the Parliament, the Federal Chancellery and the Office of the Federal President are open to the public. In addition a lot of museums are offering free entry and on Heldenplatz in the city center there´s a competitive exhibition of the Austrian Armed Forces - that´s were I took this photo on sunday when the preparations were still going on.
