WOW!

Some weeks ago I went to see the exhibition "WOW! The Heidi Horten Collection" at the Leopold Museum. The show features more than 170 works from 100 years of art history and is the first public presentation of one of the most impressive European private collections.

Interesting Style

I love art fairs not only for the art, but also because it's a perfect place for people watching. This couple had a really eye-catching style of clothing and got some funny looks... You can't see it in this photo: the girl's eyebrows were turquoise...

Art Vienna #2

Here's another work that caught my eyes at the art fair "Art Vienna": it combines an old papercollage with modern spraypaint and was realised on a vintage wood drawer by 3stepscrew, a German street art collective.

Art Vienna #1

Recently the first "Art Vienna" took place at the Leopold Museum. The art fair focused on Austrian and international contemporary art and classical modernism. This photos shows two eye-catching works by Spanish artist Samuel Salcedo.

Art Austria

Yesterday was the last day of the Art Austria art fair, held at the Leopold Museum: 50 exhibitors presented art exclusively from Austria. For me this fair is a fixture, and yesterday the weather was perfect for a stroll inside...

Art People

I love to attend art fairs, not only because of the works of art, but also because of the colourful group of people  (gallery owners, artists, art collectors, art students) you can see there.

Austrian Art

On Wednesday evening I attended the opening of the "Art Austria" art fair at the Leopold Museum. In this fair, that takes place for the 8th time, around 50 presenters exhibit 20th and 21st century Austrian art such as "Shelter (Ad Example)" by Manfred Erjautz.

Winter Lights

During "Winter in the MQ" (from November 7 to December 23)  light projections transform the façade of the Leopold Museum into a magical ambiance. More about "Winter in the MQ" soon on this blog.

Admiring Schiele

I love to watch people who look at works of art. Here´s a visitor admiring the painting "Krumau on the Moldova (The Small Town III)" by Austrian painter Egon Schiele at the Leopold Museum which houses the most substantial and most important collection of Schiele worldwide.

Silver Clouds

The kinetic space installation "Silver Clouds" by Andy Warhol is part of the current exhibition "Clouds. Fleeting Worlds" at the Leopold Museum. The clouds, filled with helium and oxygen, float through a room on air currents, bumping into each other and into the visitors. The clouds may be touched, and last Sunday some adolescents started a short "cloud fight". The exhibition runs through July 1.

Mr. Big

The sculpture "Mr Big" by the Austrian photographer Ilse Haider is located outside the Leopold Museum and serves as a teaser for the current exhibition "Nude Men". Unlike the controversial exhibition posters (see yesterday's post) this sculpture seems to upset nobody.

Nude Men

Today starts the exhibition "Nude Men" at the Leopold Museum. The show offers an overview of the depiction of male nudes from 1800 to the present. One of the posters showing the photograph "Vive la France" by French artists Pierre & Gilles that has been placarded in the streets, has quickly proved controversial. After a spate of complaints the museum has now decided to cover the "intimate parts" of the football players. Although I was lucky enough to take a picture of the original version of the poster, I´m showing you here only a moderated version to avoid any problems... Please click here for the original verison of Pierre & Gilles´ artwork.

Through The Window

Before we leave the Leopold Museum, let´s throw a look through of one of its windows at the baroque main building of MuseumsQuartier. In the background you can see the Natural History Museum (the building with the cupola).

Taking A Break

Visiting a museum can be exhausting... Luckily, the Leopold Museum, located at MuseumsQuartier, provides armchairs for visitors who want to take a break.
