2018 Christmas Lights #3
Even the five star Hotel Sacher in the city center was decorated with Christmas lights. Can you see the two nutcrackers at the entrance?

Park Hyatt Vienna
The Park Hyatt Vienna hotel was opened in June 2014. The building was constructed between 1913 and 1915 and originally housed the Lower Austrian Escompte Bank. The hotel is located at Am Hof, the largest and oldest square in the inner city of Vienna, and part of the luxury shopping area "Golden Quarter".

Welcome to Vienna
During the Advent season Vienna is a very popular destination for day trips and holidays because of the numerous Christmas markets all over town. In December 2013 Vienna registered 1.153.000 overnight stays. The hotel in this photo is located in a narrow street in the city center, and of course it is festively decorated.

Coburg Palace
Coburg Palace was designed in 1839 by architect Karl Schleps in Neoclassical style, and built from 1840 to 1845 for Prince Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha atop the Braunbastei, a part of the Vienna city defences dating to 1555. It was nicknamed "the Spargelburg" (castle of asparagus) for its central portico with many freestanding columns. The palace was owned by the family of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha until the 1970s, today it houses a 5* luxury hotel.

Hotel Windows
During one of my recent walks in the city center the windows of the 5* hotel Vienna Marriott caught my eyes again. Please click here for another photo.

All Mad Here
"We are all mad here" - this slogan welcomes the guests of the recently opened "25hours Hotel". Originally this building was a hall of residence, two years ago the transformation into a hotel started at the top floors (with a very popular bar in the attic), now the whole building is operated as hotel. The furniture of the rooms is very special: it has been inspired by the traditions of the circus institution. Sounds good to me. If I was a tourist I would love to check in here.

Winter Promenade
On New Year's Eve I escaped the hustle and bustle of the city center and took a walk at the foot of Kahlenberg. The modern buildings on top of this mountain are the Hotel Kahlenberg and the Modul University Vienna, in between you can see the spire of St. Joseph.

The blue lit Christmas trees on the balcony of the 4* hotel Römischer Kaiser in the city center stick out against all the normal (yellow and white) lights.

Parasols
The white parasols of an Italian restaurant on the top floor of a 4star hotel in the city center stick out against the blue sky. I have never been there, but it´s surely nice to eat up there and enjoy a gorgeous view.

Misconceivable
This boat stranded on the roof of Hotel Daniel in the 3rd district is a work ("Misconceivable") by Austrian artist Erwin Wurm. The hotel management had to get special permission for this project because the building has monumental protection.
The boat will remain in place for four years. What an eye-catcher!

Bull´s Eyes
The façade of a new hotel in the first district "reminiscents of a creation of Koloman Moser - a sparkling cylinder studded with oval precious stones" (according to the hotel flyer). The hotel definitely stands out from the adjacent old buildings. I wonder how the reactions of the broad public will be...

Reflections #16
This golden statue, which I discovered in front of the Sofitel Vienna Stephandsom, is an enlarged version of the Romy TV award trophy. This award was created in 1990 by the movie reviewer of an Austrian newspaper in honor of the Austrian actress Romy Schneider. The 30,5 cm gilded trophy recalls a scene from the movie "The Swimmingpool" with Alain Delon. This year´s awards ceremony will take place on April 21 at the Imperial Palace.

The Window
When I recently passed by Vienna´s oldest hotel (mentioned for the first time in a newspaper in 1746), the light inside as well as the warm colours of the draperies and the wall paint caught my eyes and seemed very inviting to me.
