First Spring Flowers

Nature is awakening... On Sunday I discovered some first shy spring flowers (crocuses and snowdrops) in the Botanical Garden.

Crocuses

While the flower shops have been offering spring flowers since the beginning of the year, nature is in large part still in winter mode despite the unusual mild weather during the past months. BUT last Sunday I discovered some first spring flowers in the Botanical Garden. One meadow was covered with crocuses and a real feast for the eyes.

Botanical Garden 1

The Botanical Garden of the University of Vienna dates back to 1754 and was founded by Empress Maria Theresia. It covers 8 hectares, currently more than 9.000 species of plants are cultivated. The garden is open to the public and a popular recreation area, the admission is free.
