It was a long time since I have seen a rainbow, but yesterday evening this was the view from in front of my apartment door. In Vienna currently you can see a lot of rainbow paintings by children on windows, balconies, doors or the pavement as messages of hope to passersby.
Unfortunately I don't play any instrument, but it must be really nice to meet a friend and play music while sitting in the grass on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
In Austria there are no exit restrictions any more since May 1st. It's now again possible to meet friends in public but the minimum distance of 1m to persons with whom one does not live in the same household must still be observed. On Sunday afternoon a lot of people enjoyed the sunny weather along the Danube Canal. The people in this photo adhered to the rules of social distancing. Some days ago I met a friend for a walk and I have to admit that it felt strange for me to always keep a distance to him.
Let's start the week in a positive way, although with the current pandemia, the accompanying restrictions and the "new normality" (as our Federal Chancellor loves to put it) it's sometimes hard to consider life as beautiful. But I hope you can find at least one little something every day that makes you forget the present situation. The Beach Club in this photo, located on the banks of the Danube Canal, has definitely seen already better days...
I live close to the Danube and when I return home from my walks on the banks of the river, I often see rabbits running around. I'm always so happy to see them!
The anti-corona virus restrictions have been prolonged until the end of April. Since Monday, April 6, wearing a "nose mouth protection" in supermarkets and drugstores is compulsory. It doesn't have to be a face mask, we can also use a scarf, but the nose and the mouth have to be covered. I used my face mask yesterday for the first time and I have to say that I found it rather uncomfortable, especially as I'm currently having a pollen allergy... As of April 13 this protection will also be compulsory in public transport. Restaurants, bars, cafés etc. are still closed until further notice, but food pick-ups are now permitted. Earlier this week a step-by-step reopening of economic life was announced: As a first step individual shops (max. 400 m² shop area and garden centres) will be reopened (of course masks will be compulsory) on April 14. If there is a steep rise in COV-19 cases, the reopening of public life will be stopped or even reversed immediately. Let's hope for the best...
Spring has sprung... also on this bicycle. I recently saw it twice in my neighbourhood - in different locations. So it's not only there for decoration, but also used for getting around. I would love to know who is its owner.
When I step on my balcony and look to the left, I see this green building. It's part of a school campus that is to be opened in September this year. It will be named after Christine Nöstlinger, an Austrian writer best known for children's books. Speaking of schools: currently of course all schools are closed and so far it is not clear if they will be opened again before the end of the school year in June. Only the A Levels are planned to take place in the second half of May (two weeks later than primarily scheduled).

Spring has sprung in Vienna - in spite of the "current situation" and even if we are back to rather winterly temperatures at the moment. There are still people in the streets as you can see, but they have to observe a distance of 1m at least.
As I have already told you the playgrounds are currently closed due to the current coronavirus crisis. The day before yesterday I saw a mother trying to explain to her little daughter that she can't enter the playground. The girl was too young to understand... It must really be a hard time for children... and their parents.
Lucky seagulls! They still can gather and continue their normal life. We are allowed to go for a walk, but only in urgent cases (what does this mean?) and alone or with our housemate(s) and with a distance of at least 1m to other individuals... The modern building you see in this photo is the Millenniumtower and the small mountain in the background is Leopoldsberg, normally a popular destination for walks.
If you live in Vienna, love to garden but don't have a garden of your own, you can become a "tree patron" which means that you are officially allowed to transform a tree pit in your own small garden - you just have to apply at the competent area renewal office. I think this is a very good idea, the city gets more green without spending money and hobby gardeners get a "playground". I hope the dogs and human passersby respect these little gardens...

I told you yesterday that last Sunday I passed by the sculptors studios of the Academy of Fine Arts, but actually I was curious and also took a short tour inside. I have to admit that I didn't really "understand" the works on display...
Last weekend the Academy of Fine Arts opened its collections, departments and studios to the public. I happened to pass by the building that houses the sculptors studios. The neon letters say "haunted castle" - I don't know if the sign is art or if it refers to the edifice which, in my opinion, doesn't seem like a haunted castle.
Don't get fooled by this photo: there's no more snow in Vienna. When it's cold enough this hill gets covered with artificial snow. It looks a little strange when this is the only white spot but I guess the city kids are lucky to be able to sled down this hill.
