British Façade Detail
Instead of doing my usual evening bicycle tour, on Saturday I preferred to sit on a bench in a park, enjoy the quiet atmosphere and do some reading. Because of road works I had to make a little detour on my way home, and in one of the unfamiliar streets I discovered this interesting façade detail. I don't have any explanation for this "decoration", but it's a perfect subject to depict the fact that Great Britain is currently a central topic...

Façade Detail #39
The mosaic on the facade of this apartment building in the 19th district depicts the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus. He revoked Rome's exclusive right to plant noble vine, and he employed the soldiers in time of peace on useful works, such as the planting of vineyards in Gaul, Pannonia and other districts, in order to restart the economy in these devastated lands. The 19th district is a wine-growing district within Vienna's city limit.

The head office of the National Bank of Austria in Vienna was designed by architects Ferdinand Glaser and Rudolf Eisler in the style of late classicism and inaugurated in 1925. On top of the main entrance you can see these beautiful decorations.

Façade Detail #27
I love to find interesting and/or beautiful details on the Viennese façades. During my last walk in the 19th district this coat of arms and the inscription "Voluntas Ferrea" (Iron will) caught my eyes. Unfortunately I couldn't find any information about this mansion on the internet.
