March Theme Day: Electricity

Currently I´m very short of time, so for this month´s theme day I just made it to this prototype of a phone booth with integrated charging station for electric cars close to my place. In Vienna there are currently a total of 120 charging stations for electric cars. According to a newspaper article, in October 2011 there were 800 electric cars in Austria (and 4 million "normal" cars).

The entrance door of the building of yesterday´s post is beautifully decorated with spirals (and a security camera...).

Still Frozen

After two weeks of freeze the temperature is now back to normal, but the "Alte Donau" (Old Danube) - a dead end of a former river branch of the Danube, separated from the main course of the river by a dam - is still frozen over. In summer this view is much nicer with people sailing and paddling...

Moo!

Carnival is officially over, but this car is still dressed up as cow...

Krapfen

Krapfen are Austrian carnival sweets: doughnuts made from sweet yeast dough fried in fat or oil, with a marmalade or jam filling and powdered sugar on top. Yummy!!

Puppet Theatre

The carnival display of the "Imperial and Royal Court Confectionary Bakery Demel": a puppet theatre with puppets whose corpuses are made of "Krapfen", Austrian carnival doughnuts.

Roses in the snow - discovered last Sunday in the gardens of Schönbrunn Palace. I´m still wondering who put them there and for what reason...

Snowman

If this snowman was real he would have loved the recent freeze, but he´s just a piece of the carnival decoration in the window of the confectionary "Heiner".

Funny Face

Someone put a funny face on the character of this don´t walk sign in the gardens of Schönbrunn Palace - anyhow nobody paid attention to these two signs... I took this photo last Sunday, in the meanwhile the cold wave is over and the snow has gone...

Vienna Opera Ball

Tonight the auditorium of the Vienna State Opera is turned into a large ballroom: it´s the night of the famous Vienna Opera Ball, the highlight of the Viennese carnival season and a top-calibre social event, attracting celebrities from around the globe. I discovered this photo in the window of a new photo gallery in the city center. It shows the opening polonaise danced by young ladies and men, experiencing their "introduction to Viennese society".
