Sunny Day
Last Saturday we were blessed with sunshine and blue sky, so I took a short walk before running errands. I passed by my favourite part of Praterstraße in the second district. The statue in front of this building with the beautiful chic window shutters shows Austrian opera singer, actor and playwright Johann Nestroy.

My Favourite Part of Leopoldstadt
Let´s start the new year with a photo of a part of my favourite square in the second district (Leopoldstadt). It is located at the quiet part of Praterstraße next to the Danube Canal and has a very special (Parisian) atmosphere. The statue shows Austrian opera singer, actor and playwright Johann Nestroy. For more photos of this square please click here, here and here.

May Theme Day: Statue
This statue shows Austrian opera singer, actor and playwright Johann Nestroy (1801-1862). After a career as an opera singer in several European cities, he returned to his native Vienna and took up writing and acting. This combination of careers has caused Nestroy to be called the "Austrian Shakespeare". Nestroy's career as a playwright was an immediate success, he soon became a leading figure in Austrian culture and society.
