7th Blogiversary

Today this blog turns 7!! I can't believe it! I created the blog seven years ago very late in the evening (or rather early in the morning) without really knowing what I was doing, and I had no idea how I should publish 365 photos a year thinking that there weren't so many interesting things to photograph. Throughout the years I didn't manage to publish a photo every day because I was on vacation, too busy, too tired... or I published photos one or two days late, but I'm still proud that I didn't give up blogging. It is fun, but also rather time-consuming. Anyway, looking for photo subjects I experienced my hometown more attentively and discovered things never seen before. Thank you for visiting my blog and for commenting on the photos! I appreciate your support and I am looking forward to sharing more photos of Vienna with you. And now let's cut the cake and celebrate!

Football Cake

Today the Austrian team will play the second match in the 2016 UEFA European Championship. Hopefully they have better luck than some days ago (Austria 0:Hungary 2)! A candy store in the city center has created a football cake to be eaten while watching the match on tv...

6th Blogiversary!!

I can't believe how time flies! Today this blog turns 6!! I can remember the exciting moment when I published the first photo as if it were yesterday. I have to admit that I'm a little proud of keeping this blog alive for six years ;-) Sometimes it's hard to find the time to blog, but  the good thing is that it helped me to experience my hometown more attentively. I would like to thank everybody who has ever visited my blog and especially those who left a comment. I appreciate your support and I am looking forward to sharing more photos of Vienna with you.

Oktoberfest Cake

In Munich, Germany, currently the "Oktoberfest" is going on: a 16-day fair where visitors enjoy beer (brewed within the city limits of Munich) and traditional food. Some days ago I discovered this cute Oktoberfest cake in the window of a confectionary in the city center.

Sweet Sunday #12

Even though I´m a real Viennese girl, I had never been to the famous Café Sacher - until last Sunday when a friend of a friend who was visiting Vienna for the first time, wanted to eat an Original Sachertorte. The cake was invented by chance by Franz Sacher in 1832 for Prince Klemens Wenzel von Metternich. Sachertorte consists of two layers of chocolate cake with a layer of apricot jam and dark chocolate icing on the top and side and is usually served with a portion of unsweetened whipped cream - the recipe is a well-kept secret. There are various recipes attempting to copy the "Original", but the "Original Sacher Torte" is available exclusively at the Vienna and Salzburg locations of the Hotel Sacher, the Cafés Sacher in Vienna, Salzburg, Graz and Innsbruck and at the Hotel Sacher's online shop.

French Spirit

If you feel like having some french cake, "Süssi" in Margaretenstraße in the 4th district is the perfect place for you. It´s a small french tea room, opened in 2008, where you can drink Mariage Frères tea and choose between french cakes, "crèmes gourmandes" and more sweet treats in a wonderful kitschy atmosphere.

I appreciate your comments very much, so please keep them coming. I´m very much looking forward to another year with you and hope to be able to show you another 365 beautiful, interesting, funny photos of Vienna. Let´s celebrate with these heart-shaped cakes that I discovered in the window of the "Patisserie zum Schwarzen Kameel".

Gugelhupf

How about a slice of Gugelhupf for your afternoon coffee or tea? The confectionary Oberlaa has decorated one of its windows with a couple of Marmorgugelhupfs: ring cakes marbled with chocolate and with chunks of chocolate.
