The white edifice of the Urania is a real eyecatcher at night. On Sunday I was lucky enough to take this photograph with the moon in the sky.
The Danube Canal is a former arm of the river Danube, now regulated as a water channel. It is 17,3 km long and borders the city center. The paths on both sides of the Danube Canal are regularly used by joggers, cyclists and skaters. In this photo you can see the excursion boat MS Vindobona, the "Badeschiff", a floating swimming pool, and the Urania.
The Urania is located on the banks of the Danube Canal. It was designed by Max Fabiani (a student of Otto Wagner) and opened in 1910 by Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria as educational facility with a public observatory. Its name derives from the muse Urania which represents astronomy. Today, the Urania houses also a cinema that screens the annual Viennale movie festival, a puppet theater and a restaurant.
