After two terrible misty weeks, today the sun was finally back and we had 3°C (37°F). Some people enjoyed the sunrays in Burggarten.
The snow is already melting... In Burggarten I discovered a lot of remains of snowmen - a sad sight... This snowman was still looking rather good...
When I left my apartment on Monday morning it snowed heavily. Only 10 minutes later I got off the subway in the city center and there was not even one snowflake - as in most parts of Vienna. During the night before last the snowfall finally hit the whole city...
On Saturday and Sunday the first Vienna Ice Cream Festvial took place in Burggarten. Eleven ice cream and frozen yogurt parlors (three of them from Germany) presented their range of ice creams. A good possibility for an ice cream tasting! For those who needed in between some spicy snack, there were also "normal" foodtrucks. I passed by in the late Saturday afternoon when the park was crowded with ice cream aficionados.
This winter wasn't very harsh, still on a mild and sunny March day everybody spends as much time as possible outdoor. Recently some people even had a first picnic on the lawn of Burggarten.
I don't like autumn because the trees are losing theirs leaves, the days are getting shorter and the temperature declines, but yesterday I really enjoyed the autumnal sun and the leaves turning yellow and orange. If only the whole season could be like this...
Yesterday the weather was very beautiful, and the temperature was rather springlike (this year the weather is really crazy). I had the day off and in between running errands, took a walk in Burggarten, where some people were having an afternoon picnic. I would have loved to join them...
The monument to Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) in Burggarten is one of Vienna's most photographed sights. It was accomplished by Austrian sculptor Viktor Tilgner and erected in 1896, originally on Albertinaplatz, but transferred to Burggarten in 1953. As you can see there are currently a lot of tourists in Vienna.
Currently the famous white Lipizzaner stallions of the Spanish Riding School enjoy their summer break, but until 2 August the brood mares and their young foals of the Federal Stud Piber are in town and present their summer programme "Piber Meets Vienna". Five times a week the horses enjoy their green nursery located in Burggarten and can be visited free of charge.
I have to admit that I didn't take this photo on the street, but in a park, more precisely in Burggarten where these tourists were taking a break from sightseeing.

Last Saturday was Austrian National Holiday and we were spoiled with sunshine and (for this time of the year) unusual temperatures of around 20°C. Everybody was out and about and a lot of people had a break at the café/restaurant "Palmenhaus" in the Burggarten.
Currently the famous white Lipizzaner stallions of the Spanish Riding School enjoy their summer break, instead the brood mares and their young foals of the Federal Stud Piber are in town and present their summer programme. The green nursery is located in Burggarten where the horses can be visited free of charge in the late afternoon. A nice attraction for tourists, children, but also locals.
Last Monday was the first slightly warmer and sunny day after a very long winter, everybody who had the chance was out to enjoy the "unusual" weather.
The beautiful weather on Monday enticed some people to have a first picnic in the Burggarten. In the background you can see the Jugendstil greenhouse which houses the restaurant "Palmenhaus" and the "Butterfly House".
Yesterday we were spoiled with sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures, and the outdoor areas of the cafés and restaurants finally came to life. A lot of people opted for the "Palmenhaus" (located in a Jugendstil greenhouse) in the Burggarten.
Whereas the streets are again free of snow, the lawn in the Burggarten is still snow-covered. In the background you can see the Palm House (which houses a restaurant and the Butterly House.)
Yesterday in the late afternoon: A mother and her daughter braved the cold and the wind and took a walk in the snowy Burggarten.
