Sitting Under the Tree

Looking through the photos of this winter I realized that I got a new obsession: winter trees. It's interesting to see how the trees "themselves" look like, without any leaves. The tree in this photo isn't very fascinating but I liked the atmosphere of harmony in the view of the tree and the girl.

A Moderate Breeze

Eleven days in a row without any photo from the Old Danube... Haven't you missed it? So here you go, this photo is from last Saturday when there was a moderate breeze.

Waiting...

These chairs in front of a restaurant in the city center seem to be waiting for spring... After some days with springlike temperatures, there was again a cold snap and yesterday it was definitely much too cold to sit outside.

A Mansion in the 19th District

The 19th district is mostly a "rich" area, so there are a lot of beautiful mansions. This one caught my eyes because of the tree's shadows on its façade.

"Over There"

Technically the Jubiläumswarte is closed but - like many others - I climbed over the door,  ascended the observation tower and enjoyed a beautiful view of Vienna. These two men spent a lot of time on top of the tower and seemed to "analize" the city from above.

Jubiläumswarte

The Jubiläumswarte, an observation tower on top of Wilhelminenberg, was erected in 1956 and replaced an older steel construction that had been erected in 1899 in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of emperor Franz Joseph I's ascendancy to the Austrian throne. Therefore, the present tower is still colloquially known as "Jubiläumswarte" (jubilee tower).

At Own Risk

I have really bad nerves when it comes to step on a frozen sea or river. If you watch carefully you will see some children on this pond that's not even completely frozen. The yellow sign says that the use of the pond is at one's own risk... There were no parents around (I guess they were inside the restaurant on the banks of the pond)... I hope that none of the kids broke through the ice!

View of the Town #19

Last Sunday I took a walk in the Western outskirts, an area where I don't go very often. It was the first time that I "climbed" the Satzberg in the 14th district.

From Champagne to Flowers

During one of my recent walks in the 19th district I discovered this beautiful building which formerly housed a Viennese champagne producer and now is home to a flower shop.

View of the Town #18

I love to do walks in the outskirts where you are still in Vienna and yet the city seems so far away....

A Romantic Date?

I have the impression that today's Valentine's Day is getting more and more commercialized. As for me, I wouldn't ask for more than watching with my love the sun set over the Old Danube.

Feeding the Birds #2

On Sunday I did another walk along the Old Danube (yes, I know, it's getting boring) and caught this woman feeding the birds. She had brought a lot of bread with her... It must have been a feast for the birds...

Feeding the Birds #1

On Saturdays I usually have to run errands, but when the weather is nice, I also try to do a short walk along the Old Danube. That's were I caught this boy feeding the birds.

Paul Speiser Hof

The Paul Speiser Hof is a public housing complex in the 21st district. It was constructed from 1929 to 1932 and is named after the Austrian social-democratic politician Paul Speiser.

A Mansion in the 2nd District

Some weeks ago I discovered this beautiful mansion in the second district. I wouldn't mind living in an edifice like this...

Family Walk

Last Saturday was a sunny day and it was unusually warm for the season, so I wasn't the only one who was out and about. I caught this family during a break in their walk, watching the frozen Old Danube.

Partially Frozen

Last Saturday I took a detour to the Old Danube before running errands and noticed that it was partially frozen.

February Theme Day: White

A white and beautifully ornated façade in the 6th district. I have taken this photo already six years ago, so I guess today it's not this neat any more as the building is located on a street with heavy traffic.
