Sunday Flowers #238
"Flowers have spoken to me more then I can tell in written words They are the hieroglyphics of angels, loved by all men for the beauty of their character, though few can decipher even fragments of their meaning." - Lydia M. Child

Quiet Square
The name of the quiet little Schulhof square in the city center derives either from a school run by the Jesuits or a synagogue (jiddisch: shul) which were located here in the past.

Park Hyatt Vienna
The Park Hyatt Vienna hotel was opened in June 2014. The building was constructed between 1913 and 1915 and originally housed the Lower Austrian Escompte Bank. The hotel is located at Am Hof, the largest and oldest square in the inner city of Vienna, and part of the luxury shopping area "Golden Quarter".

La Mercerie
Now we are inside the French café where I had breakfast last Saturday. Originally this place was a haberdashery (in French: mercerie), the old, beautiful shelves with the respective signs are still there. The café has no telephone number, no e-mail, address no website, no facebook account - you have to go there and hope that there's a free table.

Ice Cream Booth
It has been rather hot in Vienna lately. I guess the ice cream sellers are pleased about that fact, at least I saw a lot of people eating ice cream... Even the window display of a confectionary in the city center shows an ice cream booth.

ÖAMTC Headquarters #3
The architects designed the ÖAMTC headquarters as a sign of mobility. #The circular and star-shaped form of the building conveys that everything revolves arount the mobility and the associated means.

Sweet Hell Ice Cream
Yesterday I tested a new ice cream parlor in the second district. I opted for pistachio and lemon-sage. The black cone refers to the name of the parlor: "Sweet Hell". I will definitely go back and test some other flavours.

Gasometers
The Gasometers, former gas tanks, were built from 1896 to 1899. In 1978 they were designated as protected historic landmarks. The Gasometers were retired in 1984 due to Vienna'as conversion from coal gas to natural gas. In 1995 the City of Vienna called for ideas for a new use of the structures. Six years later the remodelling and revitalization was completed: The gasometers now house 600 apartments, a student dormitory, offices, shops, a music hall and the JAM Music Lab University, a private university for jazz and popular music.

The White Angel Pharmacy
The "White Angel Pharmacy" existed as early as 1587, albeit in a different location. The pharmacy relocated a couple of times before it arrived to its current site. The building was designed and built by Austrian painter and architect Oskar Laske in 1901/02. The Art Nouveau mosaic decoration on the facade is very eye-catching.
