Happy Halloween!

Austrians started to celebrate Halloween in the 1990s, and since then it became rather popular. It's all about business, I guess. Nowadays there are a lot of Halloween parties for adults and the children do trick or treat.

Holiday Walk

Last Friday, Austria's National Day, I took an extensive walk in Kurpark Oberlaa. On my way there I remembered that last year I also spent the afternoon in this park. I'm such a terrible creature of habit!

How Many Times...

I don't know how many times I have already walked down this alley along the Old Danube... That's how I prefer it: nearly empty... (I'm not a big fan of crowded places).

Waiting for the Sun

Desk chairs waiting for the sun and clients - last Saturday, when the weather started to get cloudy...

Flower Sculptures

These huge flower sculptures by German sculptor and communications designer Jacques Tilly were a cheerful sight during my Sunday afternoon walk along the Danube Canal.

Cloudy Day

During the past few weeks we were spoilt with sunny and for the season rather warm weather, but yesterday the temperature dropped and the sky was cloudy. The boats on the Old Danube waited in vain for clients...

Old & New

Sometimes old and modern architecture fit together quite well... In this case I'm not sure. What do you think?

University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences

The main building of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences was erected in 1896 and is located in the 18th district. The "BOKU" as the Viennese call this univeristy (from its German name "Universität für Bodenkultur Wien") was founded in 1872 as an agricultural college. Today it is a modern, international University of Life Sciences where more than 10.000 students are enrolled.

Sunset Obsesssion #47

During summer I saw so many beautiful sunsets while riding my bicycle. I really miss to be outside at this time of day, therefore I enjoyed seeing the sun set last Friday even more.

Colours of Autumn

I don't like autumn but I have to admit that the different colours of these leaves are a beautiful sight. What a pity that they soon will fall off...

Missing The Long Summer Evenings

On Fridays I try to stop working earlier than the other days. Last Friday I took advantage of the beautiful weather to take a walk along the Old Danube. I miss the long summer evenings, currently the sun sets already shortly after 6 p.m. and I had to end my walk in the dark.

Terrace by The Water

The current temperatures don't feel like autumn but more like Indian summer. It's strange to see the changing colours in nature and to put on only a light jacket. The terraces of the cafés and restaurants are still well attended. I like this terrace by the water (Old Danube) a lot - although I've dined there only once.

DC Tower And Trees

The DC Tower (Austria's tallest skyscraper) seen from the Old Danube. Some trees look already rather autumnal, others still "resist"...

Overgrown Mansion

I love this mansion in the 19th district because it's so beautifully covered with Virginia creeper. It looks goond when it's completely green but it even looks better in autumn when the leaves are coloured. This year I passed by the mansion a little too early... You can click here and here for more autumnal photos.

Unusual Hot October Day

Last Saturday was a sunny and with 23°C (73,4° F) unusual hot October day. I took a quick walk along the Old Danube where I saw this guy working on his suntan... (I'm sorry for the quality of the photo, I took it with my mobile phone).

the opposing miseries of summer and winter." - Carol Bishop Hipps

Ghost Bike

A ghost bike is a bicycle roadside memorial, placed where a cyclist has been killed or severely injured, usually by a motor vehicle. I discovered this ghost bike in the 19th district where a 65 year old man got killed by a truck in May 2018.

Taking Photos

I was not the only one who took photos of the view of the town last Sunday on Leopoldsberg.

The Intruder

You may know this bench already from this photo. On Sunday I wanted to take a similar photo but then this cyclist stopped for some minutes...

Taking a Break

Last Sunday I climbed Kahlenberg and passed by these people who took a break on their way up or down and enjoyed a beautiful view of the town.
