Lipizzan Art

In the summer of 2003 the city center was invaded by colourful painted horses: Business companies and shops could buy white lipizzan statues and then decorate them with their logo or a theme with the help of a local artist or in some cases a group of school children (Click here for images of some of the horses). In autumn of the same year some of the horse sculptures were auctioned and the proceeds went to the Spanish Riding School. In the courtyard of the borough office in the city center you can still marvel at one of those horses.

  1. Super shot of an interesting sight. In Jackson, Mississippi, painted statues of catfish decorated the city streets a few years ago, with much the same outcomes as you've described.

  2. It seems to me that in Paris we had the same thing a couple years ago with cows. Or maybe I was dreaming!

PS I'm sending the CD you won to you today!

  3. I've seen painted cows all around the world, London, Paris, Singapore, etc, but this is a first for me. Excellent idea to revive traditions (Lippizaner, they started breeding them 1200 years ago, if I remember my history).
