The exhibition "Painting with Method. Neoavantgarde Positions from the mumok Collection" at the MUMOK Museum Moderner Kunst presents different lines of development in painting from the 1950s to the 1970s. During the 1950s there was a radical shift and break with tradition in the fundamentals of painting in favor of new media-based forms of art. Key impulses came from minimal art and conceptual art. Their sober principles are reflected in abstract and geometrical painting with its formally reduced compositions and its rejection of narrative and illusionist representation.
Recently I visited the exhibition "55 Dates" at the MUMOK Museum Moderner Kunst. The presented 55 works from the MUMOK collection are a mix of the known and the lesser known, with artists whose names and works have entered art history and others still to be discovered. The selected works do not present a classical perspective on art history but rather a diverse coexistence of ways of thinking, themes, and artistic media.
Looking at artworks can be exhausting sometimes, a window that offers a beautiful view over the roofs is the perfect "excuse" to take a break... This photo was taken in the current pop art exhibition at the MUMOK.
At the MUMOK it is allowed to take photographs (without flash, of course) - one of the reasons I love this museum ;-) I caught this young man photographing a sculpture by Duane Hanson in the exhibition "Ludwig Goes Pop".

Did you ever ask yourself where all the artworks are stored that are not on show in a museum? Well, they are safely kept in depositories that look pretty much like the one of the MUMOK which ecceptionally opened its doors last Sunday on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the MUMOK the "Musikarbeiterinnenkapelle", a brass band established with the aim to overcome our collective brass bands trauma, played cover versions of current hits, workers’ songs and techno compositions. Click here for a short video.
Last Sunday the MUMOK (Museum Moderner Kunst) celebrated its 50th anniversary with an Open
House. The event programme comprised free entry to all current exhibitions, guided tours and workshops for adults and children, a fleamarket, a tram tour with stops at earlier sites of the MUMOK, candy floss
and music.
Last Sunday I was at the MUMOK (Museum Moderner Kunst) which reopened in September after some months of renovations (as I told you here). In her first exhibition the new director is presenting her subjective point of view of the museum´s nine-thousand-work collection. In amongst the exhibits from the collection there are works that the museum would like to acquire in the coming years (hence the title of the exhibition "Museum of Desires"). On the ground floor the oversized spider sculpture "La Vedova Blu" (The Blue Widow, 1968) by Italian artist Pino Pascali welcomes the visitors.
Last month the MUMOK (Museum Moderner Kunst) reopened after some months of renovations and architectural changes. The relaunch also involves the redesign of the museum´s logo by Austrian artist Florian Pumhösl. In this photo you can see the new fluorescent letters on the facade. I hope to soon find the time to check out the changes inside the building.

Yesterday the admission at the Museum Moderner Kunst (MUMOK) was free thanks to a cooperation with the auction house Dorotheum. I went there to see the exhibition "Hyper Real" where I took this photo. The two ladies are standing in front of the painting "Cargo Cults" (1984) by Amercian painter and sculptor Eric Fischl.
The modern building on the left side, clad in anthracite grey basalt lava, is the Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien (MUMOK), the largest Austrian museum for international modern and contemporary art.
